A quick map (I say "quick" - it took 6 hours to make) I made for the Map of the Fortnight contest over on AltHistoria: althistoria.proboards.com/thre…

The background's rather vague at the moment, but the PoD involves the Otomo clan (whose Daimyo was among the first to convert to Christianity) coming out on top during the Sengoku period. Christianity starts to take hold in the country under the protection of an Otomo Shogun, and during the 1800s western ideas about republicanism become popular amongst the Christian Japanese (the Emperor derives his authority from his lineage as a descendant of a pagan diety, after all) and they rebel, replacing the empire with a democratic republic. The new government is far from perfect though, and ultimately the ruling conservative Christians abuse it to rig things in their favour at every level, including gerrymandering of electoral districts. I did plan to have more details about this election, which was meant to be the "last straw" for many within Japan, Christian and non-Christian alike, resulting in protests and riots that would ultimately force a coalition government to reform the constitution and make for a fairer, less easily corruptible republic.

It's not impossible and it is an interesting Alt-history scenario.
If we are to accept that the Emperor would give his blessings to a Christian Daimyo I find it strange to think that the Imperial family would not convert at some point themselves. Even if they claim to be descendants of a god, this has not stopped other kings from renouncing their claim to divinity and adopt Christianity.
And even if the Imperial family did not convert, I don't see why Christians would turn on them after 200 years and establish a republic unless the Emperor did something to undermine Christian practice in Japan.
Christianity is very sceptical to revolutions and many Christians, even those who believe in Just War Theory, reject revolutions as going against Romans 13. This would not be the first time an uprising consisting of Christians would happen, but it just seems strange that it would happen because people started liking republicanism.

Not trying to take away your fun Alt-history, just saying that maybe you could expand on it a little to make it a little more realistic.
